DB CHEER - Competition Squad 2010-2011

This page is for the cheerleaders and parents involved in the comp squad.

It will be updated regularly with copies of forms, dates to be aware of and other useful things! Make sure you check it on a regular basis.

WELCOME!

Firstly we’d like to say how excited we are to have you as part of the competition squad. This letter aims to give you a breakdown of how the squad will be run, what to expect from us and what we expect of you plus costs, times, venues etc.

What to expect...

We will be constantly working on competition routines which we plan to enter in at least once a year. This squad will also be used as a performance group so when we are invited to perform at events this squad is most likely to be the one we take. For example last year the competition squad performed at Fusion Dance Festival, The Bump to Five Show at Derby Uni and of course in our annual show!

This will be quite a big commitment on behalf of your parents and yourselves. We need 100% attendance throughout the year and we will be most likely working through half term breaks too. Please let us know if you have planned holidays already and throughout the term if you are too sick to attend.

We want this squad to be fun but remember this will be more advanced than in your normal class so it’s important you try to practise (and stretch!) during the week.

As coaches we are responsible for your safety and although we will set routines that will challenge you, we will do this within a limit we feel is appropriate for your skill level.  We will be on time, and be dressed ready to dance, so we expect the same from you.

Questions?

If you have any question or concerns please feel free to talk to us, or email us. If this is your child’s first time in a competitive sport we realise you may have a lot of questions about how things are run and the rules we have to adhere to.

Competition Date

The competition we are aiming to go to is on Saturday 7th April 2012 (day before Easter Sunday). You need to be available on this date to be in the competition squad at the moment.

It is likely we will be leaving early morning and returning late in the evening as we have to wait for the results at the end of the day. All cheerleaders will travel on the coach with DanceBeats staff. There may be some seats available on the coach if any parents want to come and watch, or you can make you own way there if you wish.

The BCA midlands competition is held at Telford International Centre which is about an hour and half away from Derby.
